About Buzz

Buzz was a very small but extremely efficient competition robot designed to maximize points through consistency and smart use of pneumatics. Unlike many larger robots, Buzz relied mainly on its drive motors and pneumatic systems.  It handled hatch panels by extending two pneumatic pistons to Velcro disk, then extending its arm to push the disk securely onto the first level of the rocket. Buzz could also push cargo balls into position before placing the disk on top. Although it only completed the first level, it performed that task exceptionally well and quickly, making it very time efficient. One of Buzz’s most valuable features was its reliable climb on the three-tiered HAB platform. It would position itself in front of the platform, lean forward, and use pneumatics to flip itself up onto the first level, scoring consistent climb points. Because of its dependable performance and efficient scoring strategy, Buzz placed second overall after the qualifying rounds.
